METROPARKS FAMILY CAMPOUTS
Join the Metroparks for Family Campouts this summer. We’re offering weekends with special activities for families to come enjoy the nostalgia of camping. Each location has its own line-up of special family-friendly activities planned. Enjoy guided wildlife walks, fire-making basics, campfire cooking, stargazing, arts and crafts, movies, concerts and more! With plenty of time to explore the parks on your own as well. You do need to bring your own tent and equipment. Spots are limited, so register early.
Family Campout: Kensington
Join us for a weekend (two nights) of rustic family camping! This special camping experience is available for families for one weekend only with special family-friendly activities planned. Enjoy an evening guided wildlife walk, fire-making basics, and family entertainment on Saturday evening, as well as plenty of time to explore the park on your own. Heavner Canoe Rental will offer kayaking and canoe opportunities throughout the day on Saturday (additional fee will be charged, must pre-register, spots are limited). Every person in your camping party will receive vouchers to the Kensington Splash ‘N’ Blast upon check-in for use during your stay to cool off and have some fun!
Camping is for tents only, with 55 rustic sites available. There is no water or electrical hook up. Pit toilets and flush toilets and running water sinks via a bathroom trailer will be available. Onsite water will be limited to hand pumps and potable water stations. Please bring your own drinking / dish water.

Time: Check-in Friday, June 19 between 3 p.m. – 8 p.m.; Check Out Sunday, June 21 by Noon
Cost: $60 per campsite, max 6 campers per sit. Additional fees for kayaking trip if desired.
Location: Kensington Metropark, Group Camp
The details you need to know before registering:
- Camping will take place Friday, June 19– Sunday, June 21 (2 nights).
- Tents only with a maximum of 6 campers per site.
- Communal firepits (not individual per site).
- Firewood will be provided at communal firepits.
- Showers will be available during specific times at Kensington Martindale Beach.
- Dogs are allowed in Group Camp but need to remain on a leash of 6 feet or less and must be cleaned up after.
- Group Camp does not have gravel or paved campsites, but if you need a specific accessibility accommodation, please call the park office. We ask for a two-week lead time before your visit so we can best address your needs.
- An annual or daily Metropark vehicle pass is required to enter any Metropark; when staying multiple days, if you leave the park and re-enter, you will need a new daily pass for each day. Metropark vehicle passes are an additional fee outside of camping registration.

Family Campout: Lake Erie
Come enjoy a weekend of rustic family camping fun at Lake Erie Metropark. Step right up for a weekend under the Big Top! This year’s theme is Camp Carnival. Join our ringleaders, performers, and entertainers for a one-of-a-kind circus-themed campout.
There is plenty to experience when camping at Lake Erie Metropark. Friday, August 14th starts the show-stopping weekend with Big Top Bingo and an assortment of classic carnival games! The evening will conclude with an optional hike and bonfire. Saturday, August 15th, start your day with breakfast to fuel a fun-packed day. Join us for crafts, games, and a midafternoon round of Kids vs Parents field-day games. In the evening, the circus will arrive! The night will include dinner and entertainment from circus performers with the chance to develop some new skills. Sunday, August 16th show off your skills for the chance to win the grand prize before the circus packs up and moves on! We will have bounce houses and arts and crafts for the kids to enjoy throughout the weekend.
Every family camping will receive a delicious smores making kit and welcome bag upon check-in.

Location: Lake Erie Metropark, Wave Pool Parking Lot
The details you need to know before registering:
- Both RV and Tents are permitted with a maximum of 8 campers per site. You will be asked during registration how many people you are bringing.
- There are no electrical or water hookups.
- Generators are permitted, but must be shut off during our quiet hours of 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- There will be a communal firepit and shelter with picnic tables to use (not individual per site).
- Firewood will be provided at communal firepit.
- You will not be able to pick your campsite during registration. They will be assigned first-come, first-served during check in. If you are interested in camping next to another person/group, there will be a question during registration to ask for their name and we will do our best to fill those requests.
- Showers will not be available.
- Dogs are allowed but need to remain on a leash of 6 feet or less and must be cleaned up after.
- If you need a specific accessibility accommodation, please call the park office. We ask for a two-week lead time before your visit so we can best address your needs.
- A RV dump station is available in a short drive to our Marina.

Campers must be eighteen (18) years of age, or older, to register for a campsite. The registrant is responsible for the conduct of their camping companions, guests and visitors to their campsite.

Family Campout: Lower Huron
Experience the wonder of a Michigan summer night beneath the stars at the Lower Huron Metroparks’ Family Campout in the Walnut Grove Campground.
Timed with the Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower, this special event invites families to camp together and explore the mysteries of space and astronomy in a fun, hands-on way. Enjoy starry-night crafts, interactive activities, guided skywatching, and family-friendly astronomy programs designed to spark curiosity in explorers of all ages. Gather around with fellow campers, learn about the night sky, and take time to slow down, unplug, and look up together.
This unforgettable evening blends the joy of camping with the awe of the cosmos, creating meaningful memories and a shared sense of wonder your family will carry long after the stars fade.
Ages: Fun for all ages! Campsite holder must be 18 or older.
Time: Check in time begins at 1 p.m. on Friday or Saturday, Check out time is 11 a.m.
Cost: $35-45 per night/site

Family Campout: Wolcott Mill – Camp Rotary
Join us for a weekend (two nights) of rustic family camping! This special camping experience is available for families for one weekend only with special family-friendly activities planned at Wolcott Mill Metropark Camp Rotary Campground. Spend a relaxing weekend on the banks of the Clinton River, or take part in the many activities and events at the nearby Wolcott Mill Metropark Farm Center and Historic Center. Crafts, games, animal encounters, wagon rides, fishing, and hiking activities will all be available to registered campers, or you can venture out on your own to explore the many miles of hiking trails, or variety of local restaurants, all within a few minutes’ drive.
Camping is for tents only, with 11 rustic sites available. If you want to try out camping and you don’t have your own tent, we also have 4 Premium sites available that will include a tent, already set up. Please keep in mind that there is no water or electrical hook up. Modern restrooms and porta-johns will be available. Please bring your own drinking / dish water.
Ages: Fun for all ages! Campsite holder must be 18 or older to register.
Time: Check In – Friday, June 12 between 3 p.m. – 8 p.m.; Check Out – Sunday, June 14 by 11 a.m.
Cost: $50 per site (max 6 people per site). Fee includes two nights of camping, but does not include the Metroparks daily or annual pass that is required to enter all Metroparks.
Location: Wolcott Mill Metropark, Camp Rotary
The details you need to know before registering:
- This program is entirely outdoors. The planned camping area is dirt and gravel, mostly flat and level.
- Rustic campsites. Tents only with a maximum of 6 campers per site. Campsites will not have electricity.
- Please bring your own drinking water and food. Friday night dinner and Saturday morning breakfast will be provided.
- Generators are not allowed.
- There is a fire pit and picnic table at each camp site.
- Ice and Firewood will be available for sale on site. Please refrain from bringing in outside firewood as it can carry unwanted pests that can harm our ecosystems.
- You will not be able to pick your campsite during registration. They will be assigned first-come, first-served during check in. If you are interested in camping next to another person/group, there will be a question during registration to ask for their name and we will do our best to fill those requests.
- No shower facilities will be available.
- Given the nature of events and activities it is recommended to leave pets at home. Pets are not allowed at the Farm Center nor are they allowed to be left unattended at campsites.
