Rocket Camp | July 18 | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Calling all space cadettes! During this camp we’ll test gravity. Campers will be building an Alka-Seltzer rocket, balloon rocket, and putting together their own model rocket to take home. Then they’ll get a chance to launch their model rocket. 
Ages 9 – 12.

Outdoor Explorer’s Day Camp | August 19 | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

During this camp, we’ll be exploring Hudson Mills Metropark. We’ll pond dip for small critters, wade the Huron River Tributary, fish the Huron River, and journey through the trails in search of animals. Campers will need to bring a lunch and a water bottle. We will be meeting at River Grove picnic area. 
Ages 9 – 12.
Cost: $30 per camper

Outdoor Explorer’s Day Camp | July 22 | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

During this camp, we’ll be exploring Huron Meadows Metropark. Grab one of our nets to discover and catch the critters found in ponds. Then explore the Huron River by dipping a fishing pole in to catch the fish living there. Finally, we’ll journey through the trail to spot animals and the signs they leave behind. Campers will get outside and not only walk through, but truly explore the park. Campers will need to bring a lunch and a water bottle. We will be meeting at Cedar Ridge picnic shelter in Huron Meadows Metropark.
Ages 9 – 12.

American Girl in Nature Doll Camp | June 26 | 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. 

Bring your companion doll and get ready spend the day exploring the park together.  Campers and their dolls will make some nature crafts together, make a nature journal and learn about the plants and animals that live here on a trail walk. Make sure to bring a sack lunch for our picnic. 
Ages: For children entering 1st – 5th grade.

In this nature camp, you will get to explore two different Metroparks! Each day features different activities and explorations. Campers will hunt for insects, explore underwater pond life, dip in the pond with nets, explore the prairie, jump in the mud, meet Ranger the red-tailed hawk, visit the Spray ‘n’ Play and ride the Island Queen.  Spend Tuesday and Wednesday at Indian Springs Metropark and end your week at the Kensington Metropark on Thursday and Friday.
Ages: Must have completed 2nd grade
Cost: $150 per camper

Farm Camp | June 16 – 19, August 11 – 14 | 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day

Farm Camp offers your child the opportunity to work, learn and have fun on a working farm. Experience agriculture up close by interacting with the farm animals, helping with farm chores, and taking part in a variety of “ag-ventures”.   Each day will offer a new adventure with activities such as: hikes (with goats!) and scavenger hunts; craft projects such as candle-dipping, pierced tin, and paper mache; pioneer life experiences like barn-raising, rope skills, or playing old-fashioned games; milking a cow or goat; or grooming and harnessing draft horses before going for a horse-drawn hayride.
Ages 8 – 13.

Stand-Up Paddleboard Camp for Young Adults | June 18 | 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Come enjoy an afternoon on the water and learn the basic skills and safety of one of the fastest growing paddle sports, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). We’ll cover the basic techniques of forward stroke, reverse stroke, and turning on the SUP. Safety and self-rescue will be emphasized. All equipment is provided and included in camp price. This camp begins and ends at the Kensington Metropark Boat Rental. This camp is for kids between 5th and 10th grade. It is highly recommended that kids know how to swim to participate.

Bird Guardians Camp | June 25 | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Become a bird steward at this summer day camp!  We will focus on native birds and the human efforts to conserve these species. Campers will learn the basics of binocular use and birding techniques. Then, they’ll test out their new knowledge by birding along the Kensington Metropark nature trails. Each camper will build a bluebird nesting box to take home and learn how their box can help the native bluebird population. Discover proper nest box monitoring techniques and go out in the field to observe current Kensington Metropark monitoring processes.
Ages: Must have completed 2nd grade

Are you daring enough to spend the day learning to survive in the woods? Build a survival hut, learn safe fire building and dousing practices, learn how to survive a bear attack, how to identify poisonous plants and venomous snakes, and much more!  Kids will have fun learning real wilderness survival skills.
Ages: Must have completed 2nd grade.
Cost: $40 per camper

Designed to be educational and fun, this program allows kids the chance to work alongside our farmers taking care of animals. Each program includes a chance to meet all the farm’s animals. Kids will perform hands-on tasks such as feeding and watering animals, mucking stalls, and hauling hay and grain sacks. The farm staff is looking forward to sharing the sights, sounds, and smells of a real working farm.  The day includes many different activities, most of which are held outside.

Now younger kids get their chance to work at the farm. If your child has the energy and enthusiasm for farm chores, but maybe not the muscle power yet, this is their program! Like our popular “Farmer for a Day camp,” but designed for the capabilities of younger kids. Farmer Jr. let’s kids work alongside Kensington Metroparks farmers to learn about life on the farm: meeting and feeding animals, hauling straw, doing chores and having fun! The farm staff is looking forward to sharing the sights, sounds, and smells of a real working farm.  The program includes many different activities, most of which are held outside.

Discover art in nature! Explore the Kensington Metropark nature area and collect items from nature to make amazing sculptures and get inspiration for creating your own nature print t-shirt. Designed to be educational and fun, this camp allows participants the chance to work alongside our nature center staff. Campers will go behind the scenes and meet some of the nature center’s animals. Campers will perform hands-on tasks such as helping to feed and water the animals, learn animal care, and walk the nature trails to see what is blooming and which wild animals have been active in that area lately.
Age: Must have completed Kindergarten

Hey homeschool families! Farm Camp offers your child the opportunity to work, learn and have fun on a working farm. Nature Day Camp: Junior Naturalist | July 27-29 | 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day

It’s time to unplug the electronics. Come and enjoy our three-day camp explore the many unique habitats of Lake St. Clair Metropark with us. Campers will dive into the insect world on land and in water through sweep netting and pond dipping activities. Discover what lives in the marsh while aboard our 34-ft Voyageur canoe and see what’s biting when we cast a line in Lake St. Clair. Campers will play games at the beach and cool down with a trip to our splash zone.
Ages 8 – 11.

Can you Dig It? Archaeology Day Camp | June 18 – 19 | 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Want to learn about Oakwood’s Metropark ancient past? Come join us for an archaeology camp where you can learn to dig and explore like Indiana Jones. Be ready to get dirty as you work with a trained archaeologist to sort and identify artifacts, sift a dig site, and learn to use a compass and map your finds.
Ages 8 – 14.

Oakwoods Nature Day Camp | June 28 – 29 | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Kids will love this camp focusing on the plants and animals of Oakwoods Metropark. Meet turtles, snakes, frogs and other animals from the Nature Center; including Hawkeye, our Red-tailed Hawk. Hike the fields and prairies to discover the plants and animals found there. Explore the woods to search for deer, squirrels and more. We will be covering it all during this awesome two-day camp

Time with Toddlers Week | July 27 – 31 | 10 a.m. – noon

Let your child spend time learning about the natural world during this fun, interactive time together. Each day will include nature lessons, music and motion, snack time, crafts, stories and time outdoors. Parents are required to sit back, relax, and watch their child smile!

Get into the beautiful outdoors!  Children will enjoy stream exploration, nature inspired crafts, boat building contest, campfire cooking and many more activities in this three-day camp. Campers will be exploring the park by wagon ride and will get a chance to ride the waterslide. Most activities are outside, so get ready to get dirty and dress for the weather! Nature Center Day Camp | June 24-26 or July 15-17 |

Get into the beautiful outdoors!  Children will enjoy stream exploration, nature inspired crafts, boat building contest, campfire cooking and many more activities in this three-day camp. Campers will be exploring the park by wagon ride and will get a chance to ride the waterslide. Most activities are outside, so get ready to get dirty and dress for the weather! Lunch and snacks will be provided.
Ages 8 – 10.
Time: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Cost:  $130 per camper

Farm Camp | July 7 – 9 & 21 – 23 | 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

This three-day camp will offer your child the opportunity to work, learn and have fun on a working farm. Experience agriculture up close by interacting with the farm animals, helping with farm chores, and taking part in a variety of “ag-ventures”.  Activities vary for ages, but may include a scavenger hunt, nature hike, candle dipping, games, gardening, crafts, and much more.
Ages 6 – 12.
Cost: $95 per camper
Pre-registration is required by July 1.
