Escape your routine and get out into the scenery of Willow Metropark. You’ll find 1,532 acres of mature woodlands and scenic views of the Huron River. Stop by for a walk, a hike or a bike ride along the Huron River on our hike-bike trail or schedule a tee time to play our 18-hole golf course or 24-hole disc golf course. Anglers will find plenty of great fishing spots here along the river. In winter, Willow Metropark transforms into a haven for winter sports enthusiasts, with cross-country skiing and great sledding hills.

We’re adding new accessible picnic tables and grills to several picnic shelters throughout the park system. Work continues on installation of new concrete grill pads and securing picnic tables in arrangements that allow for unobstructed movement around them. Picnic shelter rental information will be updated on our website as changes are made.
An accessible golf cart is available, when playing a round, at the Willow Metropark golf course. Reservations can be made by calling the course at 734-753-4040, a minimum of 24 hours in advance.
The paved, relatively flat Hike-Bike Trail is at Willow Metropark is park of Michigan’s Iron Belle Trail. The bicycle repair station located at the trailhead near Washago Pond can double as wheelchair repair station.
Dogs are allowed on the trail, but must be on a 6-foot leash at all times.
Located near the pool, this large, fenced-in playground has areas for kids ages 2-5 and 5-12. Playground features include tot and belt swings, spinners, rockers, slides, platforms, bridges, and climbing structures. Equipment is on a combination of poured-in-place rubber surfacing and engineered wood fiber (wood mulch) safety surfacing.
The pool area has a zero depth entry and stairs with railings that lead to the family/two-person water slide. A portable pool lift is available. Large umbrellas provide shade on the concrete deck area surrounding the pool.

Canoeing & Kayaking
Load up your canoe or kayak and paddle along the scenic Huron River at Willow Metropark. The Huron River was recently designated as the 18th trail of the National Water Trail System, joining a network of exemplary water trails from Puget Sound to the Hudson River. It’s filled with great scenery, wildlife and much more.
Launch is located near the Big Bend picnic area.
Willow Metropark offers several different areas for basketball, softball, soccer and more. Play a pick-up game on the two basketball courts located near the Willow Pool.

Pedal the day away on our 3.75-mile paved Hike-Bike Trail loop that winds past mature woodlands and scenic views of the Huron River. Extend your journey with an additional 7.75 miles of trail, at the north end of the park, that links to the to the north end of Lower Huron Metropark or a 3.25-mile trail connector at the south end of the park which leads to the Oakwoods Metropark Nature Center. Put all these trails together and you’ve got 25.75 miles of beautiful trails that span three Metroparks.
For longer rides, continue 11 miles south through Oakwoods Metropark, the City of Flat Rock and all the way to Lake Erie Metropark. These trail segments are part of Michigan’s Iron Belle Trail.
No bike, no problem! You can still enjoy a full day of cycling here at Willow Metropark. Our bike rental is located at the Activity Center area. Hours and availability may vary, please call ahead.

Motor City Canoe & Kayak Rental
Want to paddle but don’t have your own canoe or kayak? Motor City Canoe & Kayak Rental is here to help, with rentals available daily. Start your journey at Lower Huron, Willow or Oakwoods Metropark and see where the river takes you. Rentals available daily from May through August, weather and river conditions permitting.
Ski more than 6 miles of marked, classically groomed trails past snow-glazed fields, picturesque woodlands and the Huron River. A map of the ski trails can be found at the trailhead located near Washago Pond and the lighted sledding hills. Ski maps are also available at the toll booths.
Toss your best shot at our challenging 24-hole Willow Disc Golf Course. Play along a flat terrain through gorgeous parkland. The course begins near the Acorn Picnic Area. Bug spray during the warmer months is highly recommended.
An Annual Bag Tag, which gives unlimited play at all Metropark courses, or a Daily Wristband is required to play.

Annual Bag Tags are available for purchase at the Willow Metropark Office. Annual Bag Tags are also valid for the disc golf courses at Kensington, Hudson Mills, and Stony Creek Metroparks.
Pack up your clubs and head on over for a round of golf at Willow Metropark golf course. Our 6,394-yard, par-71 course features long, narrow tree-lined fairways, water on nine holes and six sharp doglegs that will test your skills. Find the course entrance east of I-275 on Huron River Drive, just north of West Road.
Food and beverages are available. Senior rates are available for guests age 55 and older. Junior rates are available for guests age 20 and younger. Tee times can be made up to 10 days in advance. An accessible golf cart is available for use at each golf course, please call 24 hours in advance to reserve.
Cast your line into the crisp water as you shoreline fish along the Huron River. Common catches include bluegill, bass, perch and sunfish. Free fishing gear is available for loan to Metropark visitors.
Discover the sights and sounds of nature as you hike through Willow Metropark. We offer several great paved hiking trails of varying distances from around 3 miles to nearly 8 miles. If you want to make a day of it, follow the path south to Oakwoods Metropark or all the way to Lake Erie Metropark. The 11 mile trail connectors between parks are also part of Michigan’s Iron Belle Trail.

Reunions, graduations, anniversaries, birthdays and any other way your family gets together – make your event more eventful with the Metroparks! We have picnic shelters available at Willow Metropark for all your event and gathering needs. They come in a wide range of sizes and locations within the parks. Some are conveniently located near park amenities like boat rental, pools, playgrounds and sports fields to add even more fun to your event – while others are more secluded for a more intimate event.
Our locations allow you to bring your own food or catering, add bounce houses, music and so much more.
Save some money – we’re offering weekday rentals at half price. Prices are already reflected online in our online booking tool.
- All groups, regardless of size, are encouraged to pre-register to use a picnic shelter. Groups of 50 or more, those bringing in special equipment or hosting a special event are required to make reservations in advance.
- Any vehicle driving off-road must obtain an off-road permit from the Willow Metropark Office on the day of the picnic.
- Park entry fees are not included in the shelter reservation fee.
Climb and play all day at Willow Metropark’s most popular playscape, located near the Pool and Food Bar. This large structure features various slides, platforms, bridges, spinners and climbing structures. The playscape also includes seating areas so parents can enjoy park views while watching their little ones play.
The Willow Pool is an ideal place to cool down when the weather heats up. Glide down the family waterslide, play a game of water basketball, enjoy the spray features or just soak in the zero-depth entry pool.
Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 48” need to be accompanied by an adult to ride the slide. A food bar is located near the swimming pool. Hours and availability may vary, please call ahead.
