Disc Golf World Championships Coming to Kensington This August
In case you missed it – one of the biggest events in professional disc golf is headed right here to Kensington Metropark this summer. The PDGA Pro Disc Golf World Championships will take place August 26–30, 2026, bringing elite players and thousands of fans from around the world to Southeast Michigan.
Hosting Worlds is a major moment not only for Kensington, but for the entire Metro Detroit region. With more than 20,000 spectators expected throughout championship week, the event will shine an international spotlight on one of Michigan’s premier outdoor destinations while introducing new visitors to everything the region has to offer.
Spanning 4,481 acres of wooded trails, rolling hills, and scenic lakeshore, Kensington welcomes more than 2.5 million visitors each year. During Worlds week, the park will transform into the center of the disc golf universe, with competition taking place across both the iconic Toboggan course and the expanded Black Locust Worlds layout.
Preparations for the event have been underway for more than 18 months through a close partnership with the Ledgestone team. Improvements include:
• Construction and expansion of the Black Locust Worlds layout
• Course maintenance and restoration work at Toboggan
• Widespread removal of invasive Autumn Olive
• Restoration efforts near Martindale Beach
The championship experience extends well beyond the competition itself. General admission tickets start at just $10 (plus a daily or annual Metroparks pass), making the event accessible for both avid fans and curious first-time spectators.
Visitors can also enjoy a full Family Fun Zone featuring a rock climbing wall, zip line, obstacle course, food trucks, a mini disc golf course, and a massive 100,000-piece interactive LEGO build where guests can help recreate the Toboggan course brick by brick.
Championship week will also include a Friday night concert and drone show, creating a festival-style atmosphere that brings together outdoor recreation, entertainment, and community celebration.
Whether you’re already a disc golf fan or simply looking for a unique summer experience, Worlds at Kensington promises to be one of the biggest outdoor events of the year.
