Your Metroparks, Your Stories.

For years, I have wanted to find a maple tree on our property and learn to tap it for syrup with my son. Unfortunately timing, equipment costs, and life in general have impeded this dream. Today, we were fortunate enough to join the maple tapping event at Kensington Metropark. Sitting and listening to a member of the Anishnaabe tribe tell wonderful stories of indigenous peoples and his peoples’ history of tapping maple trees– with the smell of a pot of maple sugar heating over a smoky fire– was a moment my son and I both treasured. Thank you to everyone at Kensington and the Metroparks for bringing this event to our neighborhood. – Daniel
