Metroparks mean everything to my running. This is where the work gets done and the goals turn into reality. Stony Creek path, especially that quick six-mile loop, is my home base. I know every curve, every stretch of pavement, every quiet moment when it’s just me. Oh, and the occasional deer that join me; or the family of turkeys on the side. You see it all!
I’ve trained for all of my marathons on this trail, especially my Saturday morning long runs. Through the winter months, when motivation is low and the weather isn’t forgiving, you can always count on Stony Creek. The path is consistently clear of snow and well-salted, which makes it possible to keep training safely and consistently when many other routes weren’t an option. I always feel safe out there, no matter the season or time of day.
The community is amazing as well. Each week, I often see the same familiar faces on the trail—other runners, walkers, cyclists—with quick waves, smiles, or a simple “hi” as we passed. Friends crossing paths mid-run, exchanging high fives, motivating each other to keep pushing. It’s the little things that keep you going.
Countless miles, week after week, Stony Creek is where I built strength, confidence, and belief. Those runs weren’t always easy- but they’ve always paid off. This past fall, all that work led me to a personal record and the achievement of a goal I’d chased for years: breaking three hours in the marathon. Every step of that race traces back to the miles I put in at the metro parks. That path didn’t just prepare me physically—it made me the runner I am.
