Birding for Beginners
Whether you’re looking to start a new hobby or to hone your birding skills, we’re here to help! Learn about field markings, judging size, how to choose a field guide and more. We will begin with a focus on binocular use and basic bird identification. Then we’ll enjoy a short, guided walk on the trails to visit a few birding locations in the nature area.What to Expect:
This program is entirely outdoors. The time, approximately one hour, will be spent on a leisurely walk with frequent stops. Expect to walk about 1.5 miles. We will conclude at the Indian Springs Park Office. The planned path is dirt and gravel, suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, with frequent rolling or slightly hilly, and includes some bridges and boardwalks. No prior experience is necessary. For maximum enjoyment, some of our one-hour program time will require all participants to patiently remain quiet and listen closely.Ages: 10 and up.Time: 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.Cost: $3 per child, $5 per adult. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.Location: Indian Springs Metropark, Park Office Picnic ShelterPre-registration is required by 4 p.m. the day before the program.
