Calling All Owls: Kensington

‘Whooo’ is hiding in the woods? Owls, of course! With the help of mounted specimens and recorded calls, we’ll familiarize ourselves with the owl species common to Southeast Michigan.

We’ll discover their survival strategies and use some hands-on demonstrations to highlight the incredible adaptations of these nocturnal birds of prey. Then we’ll embark on an hour-long guided moonlit stroll along a nature trail to search for owls and other nocturnal creatures in the park.

What to Expect:
This program begins indoors and concludes outdoors. It is best suited to adults, teens and families with older children. Time will be spent on a leisurely walk with frequent stops. Our walk will be about 1 mile, will be a round-trip. The path is dirt and gravel and mostly flat and level. No prior experience is necessary. Some of our outdoor program time will require all participants to patiently remain quiet and listen closely. Bring a flashlight but be prepared to walk in the dark.

Ages: 9 and up.
Time: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
