S’mores ‘n’ Santa

There’s no better place to celebrate the holiday season than at the Kensington Metropark Nature Center! Step into our winter wonderland and be surrounded by the sights, smells and sounds of the holiday season. Make s’mores by the campfire and enjoy a beautiful winter’s eve outdoors, then warm up inside with a steaming cup of hot chocolate and spend some quality time with your family making holiday crafts. Of course, no holiday celebration would be complete without a visit with Santa! Be sure to bring your wish lists and a camera. Kensington Birding Club

Wake up with the birds! Birding is a worldwide recreational activity enjoyed by millions. Start a new hobby or hone your birding skills. For beginners, an indoor program covering binocular use and basic bird identification will be offered at 8:30. More advanced birders can join the group at 9:00 at the Kensington Metropark Nature Center for the outdoor walk. Bring your own binoculars and favorite morning beverage. A limited number of binoculars are available to borrow and hot beverages may be purchased at the Nature Center. Please dress for the weather—we will be outdoors rain or shine. Ages 12 and older. Boy Scout Webelos: Into the Wild

This scout program focuses on the respect and understanding of our natural world—we’ll use a variety of interactive approaches to learn about food chains, ecosystems, and how humans impact nature. We’ll look at some of Michigan’s native wildlife species and discover their role within their ecosystems and how that relates to us. We’ll even put our observational skills to use and see what kind of critters we can observe around the Kensington Metropark Nature Center. Girl Scout Brownies: Hiker

With over 7 miles of trails that are home to a wide variety of plants and animals, the Kensington Metropark Nature Area is the perfect place for earning your Brownie Hiker badge. For this program, we’ll have fun learning how to be prepared for a safe and enjoyable hike. Scouts will get to make a plan and choose their own trail, gain some new trail skills, learn how to select the appropriate gear, and make a tasty hiking snack. We’ll head outside to put our new knowledge to the test, and we’ll even play a game or two. This two-hour program will satisfy all requirements to earn the Brownie Hiker badge.
