Although I was born and raised in Michigan, I’ve lived in Ohio for the last 21 years, but recently moved back home to Michigan to be near family in our retirement years. While living near Columbus Ohio, I became very attached to the metro parks there, especially their fall colors. I was reluctant to leave them behind, and as a matter of fact, I drove to my favorites to say tearful goodbyes. So it was important to me that I immediately began exploring my new Detroit area metro parks, especially Lower Huron, which is the closest to me. Imagine my delight to find it just as wonderful as the parks I left behind! I stood near the north fishing pier, took a photo of the river surrounded by greenery, and posted it to social media with the caption “This will do!” Since then, over the last year, I have frequented it during each season. First, there were fields of wildflowers to admire, then there were stunning fall colors. When it snowed, I discovered the trail bridge over the river, and it soon showed up in every scenery photo that I shared with my old friends in Ohio. When spring came along, I found the park lined with redbud trees. And now it’s summer again, and the wildflowers have returned. Thank you for being my new sacred space. My spirit requires frequent scenic nature views, and I found it in spades at Lower Huron Metro Park.
