I have many metro park family memories because our family summer activities were spent at Kensington every Sunday all summer long.
The long drive, felt like hours and it was only about 30-45 minutes, the “are we there yet”, the “I need to go potty” and the anxious 4 children in the back of the station wagon just waiting to get to the beach to ride on the whale, their daddy’s back!! Up and down into the water, scary but so much fun.
My beautiful mom sitting on the sandy beach watching her children play while preparing their sandy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches which always tasted better with a hint of crunch!!
The concession stand goodies, the fun of ordering our favorites, usually ice cream and just the whole atmosphere of beach life that takes you to a place that is beautiful, peaceful, fun and left us with so many wonderful memories.
At the end of the day, Mom, wrapping us in towels until we were naked was normal, dressing us in warm , dry clothes for the ride home. One after the other, holding the towel up and dressing us and gathering all of our buckets, spoons, digging tools and castle supplies and heading to the car. A much quieter ride home as we were wiped out, I’m sure that’s what the parents goal was all along but was always most important was family time, every Sunday every summer week, all summer long. Wow, I miss that so much!
Gratefully, I still go with my grown children but not so much to the beach but the beautiful trails, feeding the birds, enjoying the wild life. Metro parks is a gift that keeps on giving. Thank you for the precious memories. I will continue to make them as long as I am able to do so. Again, thank you♥️
