My daughter and I signed up for this summer’s Trail Challenge. We had never been to Wolcott Mill Metropark. I decided to enroll us and the grandkids in the free ice cream making class at the dairy farm in the park. It was so much fun. First we mixed the ingredients of cream, sugar and vanilla together in a quart size ziplock bag. Then we put that sealed bag in a gallon ziplock bag containing ice cubes and salt. Next we kneaded the bags and tossed it against the picnic table to get the molecules to thicken up and form the ice cream. Ten minutes later, we were able to scoop it out of the bag, add chocolate chips, caramel sauce, whipped cream, and sprinkles or any of the other toppings that were provided. Then we sat at the picnic table and ate it. It was delicious. After thanking the three farmers (park employees) who helped with the event, we explored the farm. We visited the hens, ducks, turkeys, rabbits, horses, donkeys and goats. Walking around, we found the challenge kiosk, took our selfie, and submitted our form. It was a great afternoon. Making the ice cream and exploring the farm with my grandchildren made this my favorite park visit of the summer. This was metropark number seven. We are halfway done with the Metropark trail challenge. I am looking forward to seeing all 14 of the parks.
