I often walked the trails at Lake St. Clair Metro park in the evenings after work. A few years ago my sister Jane passed away and that evening after saying goodbye to her and discussing arrangements with family, I went for a walk at the park to clear my head. As I approached the golf course, a large family of deer were grazing. They mostly ignored me and didn’t leave as I came closer and closer. I stopped within a few feet of them and just watched them. I even took a picture and they still didn’t move. My sister had been in a wheel chair and home bound much of the time. She lived out in the country and she often would talk about the deer in her yard that visited almost daily. Jane loved to watch the deer and I believe these deer were symbolic. Maybe Jane was saying hello? A week and a half later I went to the park for a walk the day after Jane’s funeral. Guess who was there again? Deer! Every time I see deer at the parks, which is often, they remind me of my sister and make me smile.
