Students will learn about the numerous functions and benefits of wetlands through close observations and hands-on experiences. Our Interpreters will lead students on a hike to explore the different types of wetlands in the park, observing the dynamics of each. By studying various wetland plants and animals, we will learn about their adaptations and how they are perfectly suited for living in a wetland habitat. Students will use scientific tools to investigate and identify aquatic macroinvertebrates in the microscope lab to learn about biodiversity and how that relates to water quality. We will discuss the environmental significance of human impact and the effects of climate change on water quality. The program route may traverse level, composite wood boardwalks and hilly mixed gravel and grass pathways.
