Program Description:
Students will work as ecologists to discover and investigate life in a pond through hands-on learning experiences. They will use scientific tools to identify some of the smallest aquatic organism that live in the ponds of Indian Springs Metropark. We will use models to learn about amphibian life cycles and discover the unique calls of these animals. An Interpreter will lead students on a trail hike to explore a variety of wetland habitats as students observe and learn about the plants and animals that live in those ecosystems. The hike route may traverse level, composite wood boardwalks and hilly mixed gravel and grass pathways.
- Grades 1st and 2nd: Students will sort and identify creatures in pre-collected tubs.
- Grades 3rd and 4th: Students will use pond dip nets to collect pond water samples.
