Our most-requested program! Students will meet some of the Nature center’s live animals and learn about their adaptations to surviving Michigan’s changing seasons. Then, we’ll head outside to explore the sights, sounds, and signs of the seasons; using our senses to observe the clues that animals leave behind, the ways that plants change throughout the year, and to enjoy being in a true four-season climate. Bring your students each season to let them experience and compare the changes!

SPRING: Students will search for sping life, from amphibians and reptiles, to plants, and nesting birds along the nature trail. In the nature center, students will learn about animal life cycles as they interact with artifacts, pictures, and the nature center’s live animals.

FALL: During a hike along the trail, students will discover how plants and animals are getting ready for winter. They’ll observe changes in the forests, fields, river and pond as the days get shorter and cooler. In the nature center, students will learn what animals are doing in the fall while interacting with artifacts and the nature center’s live animals.

WINTER: Along the trail, students will search for signs of active animals, learn how they survive winter, and if there’s snow, see how that snow can help some animals survive! Inside the nature center, students will interact with artifacts and the nature center’s live animals to help understand the survival strategies of michigan animals.
