Your class will discover why Michigan is the perfect spot for making maple sugars and syrups and learn about how the maple tree is used for one of our favorite sweet treats. As students discover the process of making maple syrup they’ll discover the parts of a tree and how it uses the process of photosynthesis to survive. This unique program includes tree identification, tapping a maple tree, visiting an evaporator to watch the process of turning sap into syrup and getting a sweet taste at the end. Students will also be introduced to the concept of human impacts and how maple sugaring is changing in a warming climate. This program can be adapted for all abilities.
