Science Olympiad Amazing Arthropods Session 2 Workshop

Need help getting your team ready for Science Olympiad? Session 2 participants will meet live arthropods with an outdoor up-close experience using various methods and tools of collecting (all specimens will be returned to natural habitat). We will engage students using a variety of interactive study tools. Content focus: arthropod species list, visually recognize and describe the unique physical and behavioral characteristics, discuss biology, ecology, and conservation of each species, and economic impacts. We will hold a “mock event” (5 stations) for students to get comfortable with the station rotation process. There will be coach-led study stations set up for teams to try out their existing knowledge. Program lasts 2.5 hours. Please preregister, (586) 463-4332

Little Critters Nature Hour: Space Cadets

Let’s learn about some of those lights in the night sky while doing some daytime astronomy. We’ll read “Moonbear’s Shadow” and help Moonbear find his shadow, learn to sing the planet song and then build a rocket ship and take a trip to the moon. Snow melts and spring rains fill temporary ponds in the park. Wade into the lives of the animals that make use of these short-lived habitats. Some of the species of animal we will encounter are only visible for a few weeks in the spring.  This is also one of our first chances to see the results of the early spawning by the amphibians. Earth Day Clean-Up – Lake Erie Metropark

Help keep Lake Erie Metropark clean. Join us as we clean along the picnic areas and shoreline of the park. You or your group will be assigned an area to help clean. We will join back up at the Food Bar around noon for lunch. Individuals, families and groups welcome. Free park entry as a volunteer. Scouts can earn a fun patch. Flashlight Egg Hunt – Hudson Mills Metropark

Older kids will love the extra challenge of this special nighttime egg hunt. Thousands of eggs are scattered on our large field, but when the sun goes down, the eggs are harder to find. Bring a flashlight and hunt carefully for eggs filled with toys and candy. This event has one scramble time and age group. Collection bags are provided and glow-in the-dark bracelets are provided to each registered participant. Ages 6 - 12. Check-in begins at 8 p.m.. Please preregister, (734) 426-8211.
