Take a journey to the Sugar Bush and experience how maple syrup has been made over the years. Tap a tree, and then see the sap being boiled into syrup. There is no better way to finish out the cold days of winter and get ready for spring. After the program, stay and enjoy an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast for an additional charge. Maple’s Sweet Story

Take a guided walk through the farm’s sugar bush. Learn how to pick the right tree, then watch how maple trees are tapped and sap is collected. Stop by the French and Native camp to hear and see how these techniques have changed through the years. Then visit the sugar shack to see and smell the sap being boiled down into maple sugar. You will even get to taste a sample of maple syrup at the end of the tour. Real maple sugar products and pancakes will be available for purchase. Tours begin every ½ hour, last approximately one hour and are entirely outdoors. Dress for the weather.

If you have ever been interested in taking care of farm animals, then this is the program for you! Family Farm Chores allows you and your family a chance to assist staff as they feed and care for our farm animals. We encourage you to pet, take pictures and ask questions along the way. Boy Scout Webelos: Castaway

Will you be prepared to go “off the grid” in case of a wilderness emergency? What is the most important thing to consider when lost in the woods? Learn about survival kits, fire-building, treatments to get drinking water, signaling, and survival shelter construction. You’ll spend the morning learning real-life survival skills to keep you and your group safe in case of an emergency. Interested in more? Stay for Webelos: Earth Rocks from 1 – 3 p.m. to satisfy the requirements for two elective adventures in the same day! Become a geologist for a day and learn the basics of rocks and minerals and the reasons why they are so important in our daily lives. Learn the rock cycle using kitchen gadgets, build a gum drop mineral model, experiment with mineral test kits, go on a geologic product scavenger hunt, and locate important local features on Michigan maps. Interested in more scouting adventures? Come early for Webelos: Castaway from 10 a.m. - noon to satisfy requirements for two electives within the same day! If you decide to do both, remember to pack a lunch. We will be outside for a portion of the program, so be sure to dress for the weather. Please preregister, (810) 227-8917.
