Take a journey to the Sugar Bush and experience how maple syrup has been made over the years. Tap a tree, and then see the sap being boiled into syrup. There is no better way to finish out the cold days of winter and get ready for spring. After the program, stay and enjoy an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast for an additional charge. Maple’s Sweet Story

Take a guided walk through the farm’s sugar bush. Learn how to pick the right tree, then watch how maple trees are tapped and sap is collected. Stop by the French and Native camp to hear and see how these techniques have changed through the years. Then visit the sugar shack to see and smell the sap being boiled down into maple sugar. You will even get to taste a sample of maple syrup at the end of the tour. Real maple sugar products and pancakes will be available for purchase. Tours begin every ½ hour, last approximately one hour and are entirely outdoors. Dress for the weather.

Boy Scout Webelos: Into the Woods

Discover the beauty and importance of our native Michigan trees while meeting all the requirements for the Webelos: Into the Woods elective. We’ll talk about types of trees, how they grow, what products we can use them for, and their role in local ecosystems. We’ll also hit the trails to identify some of our trees and other plant species. Equipped with your new knowledge, you’ll be able to appreciate and experience the forest like never before! Interested in more? Scouts can satisfy the requirements for two elective adventures in the same day! Pack a lunch and attend Webelos: Into the Wild from 1 – 3 p.m. for a day full of fun. This scout program focuses on the respect and understanding of our natural world—we’ll use a variety of interactive approaches to learn about food chains, ecosystems, and how humans impact nature. We’ll look at some of Michigan’s native wildlife species and discover their roles within their ecosystems and how that relates to us. We’ll even put our observational skills to use and see what kind of critters we can observe around the Kensington Metropark Nature Center. Interested in more? Scouts can satisfy the requirements for two elective adventures in the same day! Pack a lunch and attend Webelos: Into the Woods from 10 a.m. - noon for a day full of fun.
