Stream Leaders Explorer Camp at Lake St. Clair Metropark
August 5 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
One event on August 5, 2021 at 1:00pm
Join the Clinton River Watershed Council and interpreters from Lake St. Clair Metropark Nature Center for this free outdoor education program! This program will train families and kids on how to perform science and data collection at home or in their community.
This program will be split into four stations: At the bug station, we will search for and collect critters from Point Rosa Marsh! Benthic macroinvertebrates, otherwise known as aquatic “bugs” are easy to collect and identify and help us determine the water quality of where they are found. At the chemical station, we use simple tests to test for water quality parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, and nitrates. During the physical station, we will investigate how things like surrounding land use can affect water quality. Lastly, families will take a guided interpretive hike with Nature Center staff to explore the unique wetland habitat at Lake St. Clair Metropark. We’ll search for wetland wildlife and make observations about what we find along the way. (optional – take home scavenger hunt for extra fun in the park!)
The program is free, but there will be Stream Leaders explorer packs available for purchase. These are intended to be used to collect water quality data in and around your community.
