Maple Sugaring: Sweet Science
March 14 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
One event on March 21, 2020 at 11:00am
In March, maple sugaring is everywhere in Michigan, but at the Environmental Discovery Center we explore the science behind the tradition with hands-on experiments and demonstrations in an open-house-style event. Watch how water moves from the “ground floor” to the top of maple trees, explore the chemistry of different sugar solutions and test your sweet tooth with syrup tasting, watch a viscosity race, and much more. After investigating science in the lab, take a journey out to the woods to see the tapped maple trees and the sap boiling in progress. Bottles of Michigan maple syrup will be available for purchase. Dress for the weather, and expect to walk about one mile on gravel trails.
Fun for all ages.
