3rd Annual Charity Golf Classic to Support School Field Trips to Take Place at Kensington Metropark

The Huron-Clinton Metroparks Foundation is proud to announce its 3rd Annual Charity Golf Classic, slated for Friday, September 27^th at Kensington Metropark golf course. The foursome golf scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. and end with an awards reception, featuring keynote speaker and Detroit Tiger legend, Willie Horton. Trevor Thompson, reporter/host of Fox Sports Net Detroit will introduce Willie.

This year’s golf outing proceeds will support the “Get Out and Learn” program, which provides qualifying schools in southeast Michigan the opportunity to bring students out to a Metropark for a rich, engaging, nature-connective field trip, including transportation.

Providing opportunities to children in southeast Michigan is a passion for Detroit Tiger legend Willie Horton. He said, “I left baseball and came home, home to work with the kids, because it was in my heart, like a calling. It was something I had to do.”

“Our goal this year is to provide fields trips to more than 10,000 students. The program will give teachers the chance to register for the field trip that fits into their STEM focused curriculum and provides transportation to and from the Metropark. We are thankful to have the Metroparks Foundation support this program and help us serve more students,” said Chief of Interpretive Service, Jennifer Jaworski.

Metroparks Chief of Foundation Services Julie Hein, is excited about this year’s featured hosts, Darren McCarty and Karen Newman.  “I am extremely honored and excited to return for the Charity Golf Classic. It is an awesome event!” said Darren McCarty, former Detroit Red Wings player. “I look forward to meeting everyone and playing with each foursome at hole 12 and having a photo taken too.” said McCarty. Karen Newman, current Detroit Red Wings National Anthem singer will kick off the event singing the National Anthem.
