JULY INTERPRETIVE EVENTS
“Kick a Can Ice Cream,” Wednesday, July 1 from 2 pm - 4 pm, Historic Center. Use a spin-off of the old-fashioned way to make ice cream while enjoying the nostalgic atmosphere of a beautiful historic site. A variety of toppings are provided. Bring a large coffee can. Fee: $3 per person. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
“Ancestral Lands: Original Michigan,” Sunday, July 5 from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., Historic Center. Drop in to explore aspects of historic American Indian life through programs, stories, crafts and survival skills. Small fee for some crafts.
“Tie-Dye T-shirt,” Wednesday, July 8 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Create a unique shirt with rubber bands and a variety of color solutions. Bring a light t-shirt. Fee: $4 per person. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
“Bubble Bonanza,”Wednesday, July 15 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., Historic Center. Become a bubblologist. An extraordinary, entertaining “toy” for everyone, bubbles have amazed people for centuries. Make different wands to make a square bubble, and create unique bubbles. Fee: $1 per person. Pre-registration required.
“Make a Broom,” Saturday, July 18 at 2 p.m., Historic Center. Explore the history of brooms, watch several methods of construction, and create a broom to take home. For ages 12 and up. Fee: $8 per person. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
“Trash Tunes,” Wednesday, July 22 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., Historic Center. Make simple instruments from common materials. Fee: $3 per person. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
“Top to Bottom Tour,” Saturday, July 25 at 2 p.m., Historic Center. Visit all four floors, learn about milling and mill history, find the importance of mills, and see some a mill operates. Fee: $5 per adult, $2 per child. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
“Finding Wolcott’s Forgotten Treasure,” Sunday, July 26 at 2 p.m., Historic Center. Explore the history of the mill and follow clues to find treasure. For ages 9 and up. Fee: $5 per treasure. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
“Hello Dolly,” Wednesday, July 29 at 1 pm, Historic Center. Use old techniques to make vintage dolls from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Doll history will also be discussed. For ages 8 and older; must have basic sewing skills. Fee: $2 per doll or $10 for all six. A snack is provided. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.

“Farmer’s Camp,” Tuesday, July 14 through Thursday, July 16 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Farm Center. Children ages 6 to 12 work, learn and have fun on a working farm. Activities vary according to age, and include a scavenger hunt, hike, candle dipping, felting, games, gardening, crafts, farm chores, and more! Fee: $75 per child. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
“Lavender Festival,” Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Enjoy the essence of fragrant lavender while listening to harp and dulcimer music. Hands-on workshops, free lectures and demonstrations by local artisans, French cooking classes and more! Festival booths include more than 40 Michigan artists, craftspeople and lavender product vendors. michiganlavenderfestival.net Fee: $4 per person, 12 years and younger free.
“Horsing Around,” Sunday, July 19 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Farm Center. Learn safety tips, groom and bathe a horse (weather permitting), take a horse for a walk, and saddle and bridle it. Watch western, English and speed riding demonstrations, and enjoy a horse-drawn wagon ride. Bring a sack lunch; refreshments provided. Fee: $15 per person. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
“Read a Book, Meet a Cow,” Tuesday, July 28 at 11 a.m. & 1 p.m., Farm Center. The Farm interpreter will read a few short stories about cows; children will meet cows, learn interesting facts about them, and make a craft to take home. Snacks provided. Fee: $5 per child. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
