Park Rentals

Thank you for your interest in planning your event at Lake St. Clair Metropark. The following is a list of facilities within the park. If you have any questions,  or would like to reserve please feel free to contact us at (586) 463-4581.

Park entry fees are not included in the shelter reservation fee.

Rental Information

Park Hours: April 1st – October 31st

  • Monday – Thursday: 6:00 am to 10:00pm
  • Friday – Sunday: 6:00 am to 11:00pm

Train Information & Hours:

  • Memorial Day to Labor Day
    • Weekends 8:00 am to 8:30pm
    • Weekdays 10:00 am to 6:00pm
  • The train provides access down Point Road to the Point Shelters, Creekview Shelter, Boardwalk Shelter, and Gazebo.
  • Train fee is $2.00 per person. Children ages 15 and under ride free.
  • Charge for running train on days not normally scheduled. $30/hr plus $2/person.
  • During September the train runs weekends only 10:00 am to 6:00pm.

Vehicle Entry:

  • A vehicle entry permit is required to enter the park $10 daily, $35 annual, $21 senior.
  • If you wish to pay for your guests, you will need to fill out an additional contract (Post-Pay Agreement) at least three days prior to the event. With a “Post-Pay Agreement” you will create a pass and distribute a pass to your guests to exchange at the toll booth for a daily vehicle permit. Post-pays may also be set up for other park fees. A copy of your license and credit card will be kept on file and the card will be charged after your event.

Catering:

  • Park rules prohibit outside foodservice professionals (caterers) from providing foodservices at park facilities. This includes picnic shelters, the gazebo, open picnic areas, and Activity center. If you rent such facilities for your event, your foodservice needs must be contracted through Kosch Catering, our onsite caterer. With exception of the Activity Center (which on Friday and Saturday requires catering of all events) all parties are free to prepare their own food or pick up prepared food and bring it to their event. Lake St. Clair Metropark will prohibit park access to outside foodservice companies in the act of delivering or serving food at park facilities. Additional Information:

  • Alcoholic beverages stronger than beer or wine are prohibited at all times. Alcoholic beverages may be consumed only in picnic areas.
  • Fires may be built in picnic stoves or grills. No person shall dump hot ash into any trash receptacle or elsewhere. Hot ash/coal containers are located in the picnic areas.
  • Leashed pets are permitted at Lake St. Clair Metropark. A map of restricted areas is available at the Park Office.
  • Glass bottles and containers are prohibited.
  • All motor vehicles are to be parked in the main parking lot.
  • No vehicles are permitted on Point Road or off road in any area of the park.
  • Picnic groups may set up their own canopies. Set-up areas are at the discretion of park management. You must check with the Park Office before setting up canopies so as not to strike underground utility lines with stakes.
  • All posted picnic signs on stakes or on the “Picnic Posting Boards” must be removed after the event.
  • A limited number of standard wheel chairs and motorized carts are available at the Park Office to those with mobility needs. Inquiries for additional transportation for those with special needs must be made at the Park Office.
  • Navigate to the Lake St. Clair rentals section at www.metroparks.com to learn more about shelter locations, availability, and printable maps for your guests, as well as other information regarding hosting events.
  • Storm Warning. If you reserved one of the Point Shelters, Boardwalk Shelter, Creek View Shelter, or Gazebo, your picnic is located at least one mile from your vehicle. In the event of a storm, please take cover at the nearest shelter or rest room and the train will pick you up as soon as possible. Please notify an employee if you have special needs.

Instructions & Conditions:

  • A reservation permit only reserves the use of the picnic site/shelter specified. It does not guarantee the use of other facilities or parking. They are provided on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Cancellation – A cancellation of a reservation will result in the forfeiture of the entire reservation fee. NO REFUNDS.
  • Rain Dates – If on your date, it is determined weather conditions will not permit use of the site, your reservation may be postponed to any future date not already reserved within the current calendar year. NO REFUNDS.
  • Vehicle Entry Fees – Metropark vehicle permits are required on all motor vehicles which enter a Metropark. Park entry fees are not included in the reservation fee.
  • Alcohol – Beer and wine are permitted (no hard liquor). Some parks have “No Alcohol” dates – contact the individual park for details.
  • Damage – Permittee will be held financially responsible for damage beyond normal fair wear and tear and will be billed for excess damage and/or clean up.
    Ball fields, game areas and restroom facilities are not reserved and must be shared. Other rules and conditions may apply to individual parks due to physical limitations and will be stated as “Local Conditions” and are part of the reservation agreement.
  • The Police Department is on duty to help you have a successful day. Feel free to ask them questions or help resolve any problems you have. As certified Law Enforcement Officers, they do enforce State and Local Laws when situations require. All Metropark Rules and Regulations apply.

Amplified Music:

  • No amplified music at the Island Seawall Shelter.
  • Must fill out a Special Event Application for all other instances. Contact the park office for more detail at (248) 608-0690.

Assists:

  • Assists are designed for those guests with special needs. If at all possible, assists should be requested prior to arriving at the park. Those needing transportation for themselves and supplies should be directed to the trackless train for assistance.

Escorts:

Shelter Rentals on the Point are allowed a one car load escort to their shelter utilizing Point Road to unload their belongings for their time in the park. At the conclusion of their rental, they will be allowed a one car load escort to retrieve their belongings. All other trips to and from the parking lot to the point must be done on foot or by utilizing the trackless train. Vehicles must park in the parking lot for the duration of the rental.
Escorts throughout the park for all other special events will be pre-approved on a limited basis by the Operations Manager and/or Supervisor. Necessity, along with impact on operations and safety, will be taken into consideration when determining approval.

Wagon Rental:

  • Payment of $20 must be made at time of rental. A wagon cannot be reserved in advance. A $10 refund will be issued once the wagon is returned to the Park Office.
  • A Wagon Rental Agreement must be completed by the party renting the wagon.
  • A valid driver’s license or state ID and major credit card (VISA, Mastercard, or Discover) must be provided to reserve a rental wagon.
  • The patron on the rental form is responsible for the wagon for the duration of use.
  • No persons or pets shall ride on the equipment.
  • Wagons are not intended for the purpose of moving picnic tables or other heavy items.
  • Lake St. Clair Metropark will not release the $10 refundable rental fee if the following occur during wagon use:
    • Damages to the wagon while it is in renter’s possession.
    • Persons or pets are found riding in the wagon during use.
  • Lake St. Clair Metropark reserves the right to charge a replacement fee of $100 for any severely damaged wagon or for a wagon that is not returned after rental use.

Thomas Welsh Activity Center
