About The Park
With easy access from I-275 and I-94, you’re never far from the natural beauty of Lower Huron Metropark’s 1, 258 acres of mature woodlands, grassy meadows and the scenic Huron River. Golf with family or friends on an 18-hole, par-3 golf course. Run or inline skate along a paved, hike-bike trail. Shoreline fish or canoe along the river, as you observe swans or geese floating on the water. In the summer, coast down a water slide or drift along the lazy river at the Turtle Cove Family Aquatic Center. Ice-skate or play a game of hockey on three, picturesque frozen ice ponds during the winter. The metropark also offers scenic picnic areas, basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts. Come for a few hours or stay for the day at Lower Huron Metropark.

Turtle Cove Family Aquatic Center
Fun for all ages! Zip down two waterslides, drift along a lazy river, get soaked under the 300-gallon dumping bucket, play on the spray pad and wade into the zero-depth entry pool with lap lanes. The Grille serves food and beverages (outside food/beverages and coolers are not permitted). Open Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Weekdays and 11 a.m.-8 pm weekends and holidays.
*Must be 48" or taller to ride the large waterslides.

Park Activities
Ride a 4.1-mile paved hike-bike trail that meanders along scenic views of the Huron River, through open fields and lush woodlands at Lower Huron Metropark. The trail continues through Willow and Oakwoods Metropark for a 30-mile round trip.
Bring your scout group or youth organization to camp under the stars at Lower Huron Metropark. Overnight and day camping is available for organized youth groups. Registration and a permit are required. Please contact the park office at (734) 697-9181 for more information.
Bring a canoe or kayak to paddle along the scenic Huron River at Lower Huron Metropark. Glide past sycamore and cottonwood tree-lined shores: you might even see a muskrat, turtles or ducks. Group camp is available for overnight trips with a written permit. Canoe maps are available at the park office. Contact the park office at (734) 697-9181 for additional information.
Plan your next pick-up game at Lower Huron Metropark: basketball, softball diamonds and tennis courts are located near the Woodscreek Picnic Area. Additional softball diamonds are located near Ellwoods, Tulip Tree and the East Bend picnic areas. Limited horseshoes and volleyball equipment are available upon request at the Metropark Office. All equipment is available on a first- come first-served basis, and a deposit is required.
Cut your own cross-country ski trail along flat terrain at Lower Huron Metropark. Enjoy picturesque views of the Huron River and mature woodlands, with a chance to glimpse red fox or white-tailed deer.
Bring your fishing rod, tackle box and cast your line along the shore of the Huron River. Shoreline fish throughout the park for largemouth and smallmouth bass, steelhead, northern pike. Angle near the south fishing site for -bullhead, and panfish. Fishing decks are located at the East Bend Picnic Area, and the north and south fishing sites.
Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.
Geocaches are located throughout the Huron-Clinton Metroparks. If you wish to place a cache within a Metropark, see the rules, regulations, and site permit application.
Work on your short game or bring the kids to golf at Lower Huron Metropark. This family-friendly, Par-3, 18-hole course offers fairways from 50 to 110 yards. Children must be at least 5 years old. Special rates are offered for seniors (62+), and juniors (17 and under) on weekdays only. Golf club rental is available.

Discover the sights and sounds of nature as you hike through Lower Huron Metropark. Explore two self-guided footpaths through beautiful, mature woodlands along the floodplain of the Huron River. Or, take the paved 4.1 mile hike/ bike trail within the metropark connecting to Willow and Oakwoods metroparks, for a longer, 30-mile round trip. The diverse habitats teem with wildlife along the routes.
Enjoy a winter wonderland as you skate in a “Currier and Ives” setting on three natural frozen ponds cleared for skating at Lower Huron Metropark. Hockey enthusiasts can practice their shot on one rink, while families skate on the other two. Bring hot cocoa and warm up by a bonfire.
The thick woodlands, open fields and Huron River provide a beautiful backdrop and plenty of shady spots for your next picnic, reunion, or company outing. Tables, grills and shelters are located throughout the metropark. Advanced registration is required for groups of 50 or more. To register or reserve a shelter, contact (734) 697-9181.

Where is Lower Huron Metropark located?
Lower Huron is located at I-94 and Haggerty Road (Exit 192) in Belleville.
Does registering my picnic give me exclusive use of an area?
All picnic areas are on a first come first serve basis. Your registration provides us with information pertaining to your event and allows us to have this information available at our tollbooths. It also gives us information as to the size of your group and any special events that you might be planning.
Do you have a beach?
Lower Huron Metropark does not have a beach; please try our Family Aquatic Center - Turtle Cove, with a zero entry pool, squirt zone with dump bucket, waterslides and endless lazy river.
Do you have a wave pool?
Our pool is not a wave pool. Please try the wave pool at Lake Erie Metropark.
Are alcoholic beverages allowed in the park?
Beer and wine are permitted (no hard liquor). Alcohol of any kind is not permitted around the pool area. Certain alcohol ban dates may apply, please contact the park for details.
Are ground fires or bonfires allowed?
Only fires in grills are allowed.
Can I post signs for my event?
You may put signs on stakes that offer direction to your event. You are not allowed to post signs on park signs, road signs or trees. Registering your event with the office provides information to the toll booth operators who can direct members of your group to your picnic location.
Does my dog have to be on a leash?
All pets must be on a leash no longer than six feet.
