About The Park
If you are looking for a quick getaway, a place where you can walk miles of trails among towering trees or discover what Southeastern Michigan used to look like, head for Indian Springs Metropark. Get an intimate look at the area’s native ecosystems at the Environmental Discovery Center, or hike trails meandering the headwaters of the Huron River, an area virtually untouched by human hands. Located nine miles northwest of Pontiac, the park encompasses more than 2,215 acres of wooded wetlands and rolling meadows. The diverse habitats provide a natural sanctuary for a wide range of wildlife. If you are lucky, you may spy a red fox running across the restored prairieland or even hear coyotes howling at trains passing nearby. Observe a captivating wildflower display from April through June.
Indian Springs Metropark also hosts a variety of recreation including an 18-hole regulation golf course, the Environmental Discovery Center with an underwater pond viewing room, a nature center, paved hike-bike trail, scenic picnic areas, volleyball and horshoe pits. In the summertime, kids can cool off at the Spray ’n’ Play spray grounds with the Adventure maze, rock-climbing wall and a tot lot. In the winter, cross country-ski nearly 12 miles of trails or sled at near Meadowlark Picnic Area.
The event room at Indian Springs Metropark’s Environmental Discovery Center is a stunning venue for your next party or banquet. Entertain guests in a beautiful, 200-capacity room overlooking a pond and open meadows.

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.
Geocaches are located throughout the Huron-Clinton Metroparks. If you wish to place a cache within a Metropark, see the rules, regulations, and site permit application.

Whether you seek a breathtaking view atop the prairie overlooking the metropark, or a quiet, serene experience walking among towering trees arching above you, Indian Spring’s hiking trails quickly transport you to the wonders of the natural world. Follow six miles of self-guided footpaths meandering through wet woodlands, tallgrass prairies and native plant gardens surrounding the nature center. Woodland Trail traverses the Huron Swamp, one of the last great natural areas in Southeastern Michigan, leading to secluded Timberland Lake. Stop to see the sedge fen, a unique wetland bordering the lake. Farmland Trail is a one and a half-mile course through old farm fields: a few antique farm implements still remain. Pondside Trail is a short, paved path around a small marsh, Discovery pond, tallgrass prairies and the wooded edge of a verbal pond. An eight-mile, paved hike-bike trail couses through the park's woodlands and open, grassy areas. Trails begin at the nature center building or the Environmental Discovery Center. The hike/bike trail begins at the Meadowlark Picnic Area.
Explore the beauty and ecological contribution of Southeast Michigan’s native ecosystems at Indian Spring Metropark’s Nature Center . A historical exhibit tracing the ecological communities from the glacial period to the present day is illustrated. Live reptiles and amphibians are on display for up-close viewing. Hands-on activities introduce you to the natural wonders of the Metropark. Self-guided nature trails begin at the center and lead to woods, wetlands, and tallgrass prairies. School and scout programs are available by appointment. Pets, bicycles and joggers are not allowed in the nature study area or on the trails. For more information contact the Nature Center at 248- 625-7280

Children of all ages will enjoy Indian Springs Metropark’s Spray ‘n’ Play. Get soaked in the water spray area, scale a rock-climbing wall or cargo net, and explore a maze. Three distinct areas accommodate older children. A toddler area includes a painted labyrinth and sand pit with oversized scoopers for digging. The Spray ‘n’ Play is open year round, with the water spray area open Memorial Day to Labor Day. Hours of operations are 11 am - 7 pm daily.
