Did you know you can make your own dye to color eggs using spices, fruits, and vegetables? Come learn how and which colors you can make from different items found in nature. Then dye your own eggs to take home. The Nature Center will provide 3 boiled eggs for dyeing, please bring your own additional boiled eggs if you wish to dye more.

Join an Interpreter on a hike to the Woodcock display grounds. This rotund gamebird puts on a spectacular show for his ladies at dusk, especially on moonlit nights. We’ll use our eyes and ears to observe the males’ display flights. Participants must be quiet at all times and patient! Dress for weather conditions.

Join us in removing invasive garlic mustard from Stony Creek Metropark. This opportunity involves pulling and bagging garlic mustard. We will meet at the Nature Center parking lot (look for the Metroparks vehicle and flag). Volunteers receive free day entry to the park, just let the toll booth attendant know you are at the park for a volunteer workday.

It’s Spring - time to start seeds indoors! Youngsters will make a recycled paper pot and then plant seeds. Tend the sprouting plants indoors until the last frost date (around May 30) then take your plant outdoors and tuck it, pot and all, into the soil. Please bring a small glass jelly jar if you have one.

Bring your Mom or Grandmother out for a spring hike on the trails. Many of our visitors have been walking with their Moms each year for over 20 years – start your own family tradition! Participants will receive a certificate and all Moms and Grandmothers will receive a flower to plant in their garden. Wear comfortable shoes and bring your camera!

Decorate a t-shirt for Dad or Grandfather this Father’s Day! We’ll have nature–themed stamps for you to print onto the shirts in permanent acrylic paints. Wear older clothes, or we have cover shirts to borrow. Bring a light color, plain t-shirt that will fit your Dad or Grandfather, and one for you if you wish. This can be a surprise gift or a fun project for you to do with your Dad. All ages. Space is limited.

Fireworks at the Metroparks is a five county celebration that has been a tradition for years that provides a safe and exciting way for the community to celebrate our nation’s birthday, while enjoying the natural beauty of the Metroparks. Each Fireworks display begins at dusk and lasts approximately 90 minutes. Joining us again in 2017 will be the Greenwood Farms Clydesdale Horses and multiple hospitality vendors.
