Invasive Shrub Removal – Stony Creek Metropark

Join us in removing invasive shrubs like autumn-olive, buckthorn, and honeysuckle from Stony Creek Metropark. This opportunity involves cutting down invasive shrubs with handsaws/loppers and treating the cut stumps with herbicide. We will meet at the Nature Center parking lot (look for the Metroparks vehicle and flag). Volunteers receive free day entry to the park, just let the toll booth attendant know you are at the park for a volunteer workday.

Event Format: 36-hole stroke play. All entering golfers must have a USGA handicap or verifiable league handicap. All play will be governed by the USGA rule of golf. Wolf Scouts will learn the basics of topographical maps, how to use natural signs to find your way, how to use a compass on a map and when hiking, then we will navigate an outdoor course to test your new skills. Come along with an Interpreter on a search for resident owls. After an introduction on owls, we’ll walk quietly along the trail, stopping occasionally to call owls. We may be fortunate to observe other wildlife as well. Participants must be able to be quiet at all times, and wait patiently when listening.
