Spring Wildflower Walk

For a short time each spring, the forest floor erupts into a menagerie of color as the ephemeral wildflowers bloom. We will walk the Woodland Trail, looking for spring beauties, trilliums, trout lilies, wood anemone, early meadow rue and more! Wear sturdy walking shoes and dress for the weather. Family Discovery Days: A Frog’s Life

We’ll tune our “Frog Radio” to the eight-different species of frogs and toads found in the park, and then kids will make a frog lifecycle bandana to take home. Homeschool: Michigan’s Rocks

Did you know that igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks can all be found right here at Indian Springs? We’ll see examples of each type and learn how the rock cycle works by following a “mock rock” through the rock cycle. Participants will also have a chance to do the geology scavenger hunt in our building to look for rocks and minerals used in everyday life. Kids, explore two different Metroparks at this four day camp. These are just some of the activities in this fun-filled week. Spend the first two days at the Environmental Discovery Center at Indian Springs Metropark and end the week with two days at the Kensington Metropark Nature Center. For Into the Woods, we’ll talk about types of trees, how they grow, what products we can use them for, and their role in local ecosystems. We’ll also hit the trails to identify some of our trees and other plant species.  And for Into the Wild, we’ll use a variety of interactive approaches to learn about food chains, ecosystems, and how humans impact nature. We’ll look at some of Michigan’s native wildlife species and discover their roles within their ecosystems and how that relates to us. We’ll even put our observational skills to use and see what kind of critters we can observe around Indian Springs Metropark.
