Winter Blankets Metroparks For Snow Fun
“No school today” means kids and families will be seeking snow fun at the Huron-Clinton Metroparks, as thousands of kids stay home from school. Take advantage of today’s snow, or plan a quick trip this weekend to a nearby Huron-Clinton Metropark. With Michigan weather, you need to play while it stays!
Cross-country ski trails are open at Hudson Mills, Huron Meadows, Indian Springs, Kensington, Lake Erie, Metro Beach, Stony Creek and Willow Metroparks, as conditions allow. Cross-country skiers should bring their own skis today. On weekends, cross-country skis can be rented at Hudson Mills, Huron Meadows, Kensington, Stony Creek and Willow Metroparks. Most trails are self-groomed; tracks will be set as snow conditions allow. Trails are groomed for classic cross-country skiing except for Huron Meadows Metropark, which is only one of a few parks in Southeast Michigan that grooms its trails for skate-style and classic cross-country skiing. Please call the individual park for trail conditions and when grooming will be completed.
The hills are open for sledding at Kensington, Indian Springs, Lake Erie, Willow, Stony Creek and Willow Metroparks. Toboggans can be used on designated hills at Stony Creek and Willow Metroparks. Kensington’s two toboggan runs will be open today.
Snowboards are allowed on the designated snowboarding hill at Stony Creek Metropark. Ice skating rinks are open Metro Beach and Kensington Metroparks, and may open at Lower Huron or Willow Metroparks, as conditions allow. Please call the individual park for ice rink conditions.
Snowshoes can be rented from the nature centers at Oakwoods and Stony Creek Metroparks: $5 per adult, $3 per child, for three hours. The nature centers are open from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekends.
Please call ahead to check wintersports facility conditions. Because ice and snow conditions vary from day to day, it’s always best to call ahead before visiting any park. A vehicle entry permit is required to enter any Metropark
The Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority, one of the largest regional park systems in the nation, operates 13 Metroparks in Southeast Michigan. The Metroparks host nearly nine million visitors each year.
