The Oakland County Board of Commissioners reappointed Peter S. Walters, of Milford, at its March 23 meeting to be the Oakland County representative to the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority Board of Commissioners for a term ending May 15, 2012.
This is Walters’ third term of service on the HCMA Board of Commissioners. Walters initially served as one of two Governor appointees on the HCMA Board of Commissioners from November 4, 2002 to May 2, 2005. He was appointed by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners to fill the unfilled term vacated when HCMA Commissioner James Clarkson passed away on August 6, 2005. Walters was appointed to serve through the end of Clarkson’s term, which expires
May 15, 2006.
Walters is the Group Vice President for Guardian Industries Corp. in Auburn Hills, a leading worldwide manufacturer of float glass and fabricated glass products for commercial and residential construction industries. Guardian is also a major supplier of glass and plastic trim products to the world’s automotive industry, as well as a distributor of building products.
He currently serves on the boards of the Michigan State Chamber of Commerce and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
The HCMA is a five-county special parks district including the counties of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Livingston. The system currently maintains and operates 24,000 acres of recreational land within 13 Metroparks. It is governed by a seven-member Board of Commissioners. Each member county appoints a representative to the board and two are appointed by the Governor to represent the district at large.
