Invasive Shrub Removal – Huron Meadows

Join us in removing invasive shrubs from Huron Meadows Metropark. We will meet at the Acorn Ridge Picnic Shelter (look for the Metroparks vehicle and blue flag). Volunteers receive free day entry to the park, just let the toll booth attendant know you are at the park for a volunteer workday.

Sunset YoPi is back for the fifth summer at Stony’s Eastwood Beach!  Join us for a fun fusion of yoga, Pilates and fitness Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7:30 pm, starting June 10. Please bring a mat, water and a 9”Pilates ball. Instructor Ivy will have equipment to loan. Multi -level . Families and children 12 years old and older are welcome.

Farmer for a Day Camp

Designed to be educational and fun, this program allows kids the chance to work alongside our farmers taking care of animals. Each program includes a chance to meet all of the farm’s animals. Kids will perform hands-on tasks such as feeding and watering animals, mucking stalls, and hauling hay and grain sacks. Ages: 8 - 15

Paper Making

Join Your Metroparks and Environmental Consulting & Technology, Inc. on Thursday August 22nd in conducting a plant and wildlife survey at Stony Creek and Wolcott Mill Metroparks. These surveys will be conducted under the ITC transmission line corridor as a part of ITC’s Wildlife Habitat Council program. ECT provides general instruction on plant identification and will have several reference books on hand to help with plant and wildlife ID and species list making.  All knowledge/skill levels are welcome!

Learn about and experience the rich history connected with the voyageurs, coureur de bois, early settlers, Indians & military of the Great Lakes Fur Trade Era. This reenactment of the life-styles and skills of this era will include demonstrations and displays of canoe building, traditional crafts and skills, trade goods and artifacts, blacksmithing, campfire cooking, military life, cannons and weaponry, and much more! Come and enjoy music and dance, stories and lectures, and the sharing of our unique culture and history. The encampment is set up along the West Beach, with access from the Day Sail parking lot and beach.

Wake up with the birds! Birding is a worldwide recreational activity enjoyed by millions. Start a new hobby or hone your birding skills. For beginners, an indoor program covering binocular use and basic bird identification will be offered at 8:30. More advanced birders can join the group at 9:00 at the Kensington Metropark Nature Center for the outdoor walk. Bring your own binoculars and favorite morning beverage.
