If you have ever been interested in taking care of farm animals, then this is the program for you! Family Farm Chores allows you and your family a chance to assist staff as they feed and care for our farm animals. We encourage you to pet, take pictures and ask questions along the way. Afternoon Snowshoe Hike

Enjoy a quiet snowshoe hike through the winter woods on snowshoes in search of animal signs!  You will learn the proper use of snowshoes, which are provided for program participants. Science Olympiad Amazing Arthropods Session 1 Workshop

Need help getting your team ready for Science Olympiad? Session 1 participants will meet live arthropods, an indoor up-close experience with these amazing creatures. We will engage students using a variety of interactive study tools. Content focus: visually recognizing and identifying the characteristics (basic biology and anatomy) of each listed Arthropod Class and Insect Order, Linnaean classification, dichotomous keys, and Arthropod life cycles. We will hold a “mock event” (5 stations) for students to get comfortable with the station rotation process. There will be coach-led study stations set up for teams to try out their existing knowledge. Program lasts 2.5 hours. Please preregister, (586) 463-4332.

Ice Fishing for Beginners

Ice fishing is the perfect way to spend a Michigan winter day! Come test the waters and take advantage of Free Fishing Weekend with us here at Kensington Metropark on the beautiful Kent Lake. Our program will begin indoors at the Nature Center to learn about the basics of ice fishing which will include various aspects of ice safety, proper technique for drilling your hole in the ice, and how to attract the fish. We’ll then head outside and hit the ice so you can try it yourself. If possible, bring your own ice fishing rod (inexpensive and available at many sporting stores). Dress to be outside, waterproof boots are highly recommended. If you want to have a seat while waiting for your big catch, a 5 gallon bucket is a great choice. Bait will be provided. Drop-in Owl Pellet Dissecting Day
