Join us for a two-day celebration of winter fun, combining traditional outdoor activities such as snowsnake and atlatl throwing, with some comfortable indoor crafting, fly-tying, flint-knapping and live dulcimer music performed by the Silver Strings Dulcimer Society. Don’t forget the bonfire on Saturday night. It’s just the thing to keep the winter chill away. Time: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Gravity Works! Sledding Fun

The weather may seem frightful, but if you were a stonefly it would be delightful! Many terrestrial insects start their lives under water only to sprout wings and live the rest of their adult lives on drier land. Winter marks the last days as a larva for some of these insects and is the time when they are easiest to see.  Join us as we grab nets to plunge through the ice to get a small glimpse of the winter wonderland these insects call home. Moonlight Madness

It’s time for the first eclipse of the year! Although lunar eclipses are not as rare as some people believe, viewing a total lunar eclipse is uncommon. Totality occurs at 12:12 a.m. so be prepared to stay up late. View the lunar eclipse through our spotting scopes, learn how eclipses happen, make s’mores at the campfire, drink hot chocolate and create some moon crafts. For the more adventurous, take a nocturnal hike to learn about nature’s relationship with the moon. Drop in anytime- come by for an hour or come for the night. Dress for the weather. Homeschool: Ice Harvest

Hey homeschool families! We invite you to discover the cool history of ice harvesting. Learn how ice harvested from this region’s lakes kept food cold before the invention of refrigeration. This program includes demonstrations of ice harvesting, a chance to try your hands with the tools of the ice trade, and then warm up in the classroom while discussing the ice man and home ice deliveries. Students will learn an appreciation of a forgotten aspect of the region’s history and learn how our geography contributed to the growth of cities. Tours begin every half hour and are mostly outdoors. Dress for the weather. No preregistration required. Time: 10 - 2 p.m.
