Maple’s Sweet Story

Take a guided walk through the farm’s sugar bush. Learn how to pick the right tree, then watch how maple trees are tapped and sap is collected. Stop by the French and Native camp to hear and see how these techniques have changed through the years. Then visit the sugar shack to see and smell the sap being boiled down into maple sugar. Taste a sample of maple syrup at the end of the tour. Real maple sugar products and pancakes will be available for purchase.. Tours begin every ½ hour, last approximately one hour and are entirely outdoors. Dress for the weather. Time: 11- 2:30 p.m.

Canvasbacks from the Cove

Need help getting your team ready for Science Olympiad? We will focus on using your study guide, looking for key characteristics in reptiles and amphibians, and differentiating between frog calls. There will be a five-question mock event for teams to experience a timed test, and coach-led study stations for extra practice. Bring the field guide required by Science Olympiad. Science Olympiad Amazing Arthropods Workshop

Need help getting your team ready for Science Olympiad? Session 1 participants will meet live arthropods in an indoor up-close experience with these amazing creatures. You will be engaged by using a variety of interactive study tools. Content focus: visually recognizing and identifying the characteristics (basic biology and anatomy) of each listed Arthropod class and insect order, Linnaean classification, dichotomous keys, and arthropod life cycles. We will hold a “mock event” (5 stations) for students to get comfortable with the station rotation process. We will have coach-led study stations set up for teams to try out their existing knowledge. Boy Scouts: Weather Merit Badge

Scouts in BSA will measure weather phenomena with high-tech tools at the Environmental Discovery Center, find out how to stay safe in dangerous weather, make some weather measurements, and then, in your own personal vehicles, we will drive to visit the NOAA Weather Station in White Lake to talk to a meteorologist.  Some prerequisites are required and will be emailed at the time of registration.  All requirements to earn the merit badge will be addressed at the program.
