Little Critters Nature Hour: Mittens

Bring your little ones to the Kensington Metropark Nature Center to experience a winter story like never before! We’ll read “The Mitten” by Jan Brett and enjoy a hands-on experience with a few of the woodland creatures from the book. If it’s not too chilly, we’ll head outside to search for some of our own woodland creatures and feed some winter songbirds. Make sure to bring your mittens and other cold-weather clothes! Project FeederWatch

Project FeederWatch is a winter-long survey of birds that visit feeders at backyards, nature centers, and community areas. Feeder Watchers periodically count the birds they see at their feeders from November through early April and send their counts to Project FeederWatch at Cornell University. FeederWatch data helps scientists track movements of winter bird populations and trends in bird distribution and abundance. Learn what birds you can find in the winter and how to correctly identify them.  Become a citizen scientist as we watch the birds at the nature center feeders and document what is seen.
