Species Survey – Stony Creek Metropark
August 23 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Come out and join us and our partner Environmental Consulting Technologies (ECT) for the 2017 ITC species survey at Stony Creek Metropark. This opportunity gives you the chance to identify native plants and wildlife in our prairie ecosystems. ECT provides general instruction on plant identification and has several reference books on hand to help with plant and wildlife ID and species list making. We will meet at the Nature Center parking lot (look for the Metroparks vehicle and flag). Volunteers receive free day entry to the park, just let the toll booth attendant know you are at the park for a volunteer workday.
The purpose of the surveys is to create species lists of plants and wildlife found in the Wildlife Habitat Council’s “wildlife at work” project areas. As volunteers, you are an essential part in our work to restore and conserve our natural areas. Your help allows the Metroparks to protect unique ecosystems that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
All necessary tools and equipment will be provided, as well as a water cooler and snacks. Please be sure to dress for working outdoors and in areas that may include poison ivy (long pants, long sleeves, closed-toe shoes, rain gear, etc.). We will provide gloves, but if you have a favorite pair, feel free to bring them.
Registration is required. Please register at least 24 hours before the workday. To register, please contact the Natural Resources Volunteer Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or (810) 494-6053.
Volunteer opportunities without a minimum of five volunteers registered will be canceled. Volunteer opportunities may also be canceled for severe weather events. These weather events can include extreme heat or heavy rain. Opportunities canceled due to weather may be rescheduled. Those registered will be notified by email at least 24 hours in advance.
A liability waiver is required; if under 18, a parent/legal guardian needs to sign as well.
