Native Seed Collection – Stony Creek Metropark
October 7 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Come out and lend a helping hand by collecting native seed. The collected seed will be used to restore ecosystems within Stony Creek Metropark. If you have empty milk jugs or paper bags, please bring them. We will meet at the Nature Center parking lot (look for the Metroparks vehicle and flag). Volunteers receive free day entry to the park, just let the toll booth attendant know you are at the park for a volunteer workday.
Native seed collection is a key step in making plant materials available for restoration projects. As volunteers, you are an essential part in our fight against invasive species and in our work to restore and conserve our natural areas. Without your help many native plants are crowded out. Your help allows the Metroparks to protect unique ecosystems that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
All necessary tools and equipment will be provided, as well as a water cooler and snacks. Please be sure to dress for working outdoors and in areas that may include poison ivy (long pants, layered clothing, closed-toe shoes, rain gear, etc.). We will provide gloves, but if you have a favorite pair, feel free to bring them.
Registration is required. Please register at least 24 hours before the workday. To register, please contact the Natural Resources Volunteer Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or (810) 494-6053.
Volunteer opportunities without a minimum of five volunteers registered will be canceled. Volunteer opportunities may also be canceled for severe weather events. These weather events can include extreme heat or heavy rain. Opportunities canceled due to weather may be rescheduled. Those registered will be notified by email at least 24 hours in advance.
A liability waiver is required; if under 18, a parent/legal guardian needs to sign as well.
