Invasive Shrub Removal – Kensington Metropark

September 29 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Overview:

REI is partnering with Michigan DNR, Friends of Island Lake, Huron-Clinton Metroparks, Sierra Club, and Motor City Mountain Biking Association for a volunteer event. All volunteers should meet at 10 a.m. at Kensington Metropark’s East Boat Launch. We will then discuss the projects, break into groups, and travel to our work sites within both Kensington Metropark and Island Lake.

All necessary tools and equipment will be provided, as well as a water cooler and snacks. We will provide gloves, but feel free to bring your favorite pair! Please be sure to dress for working outdoors and in areas that may include poison ivy (long pants, layered clothing, closed-toe shoes, rain gear, hat, sunscreen, etc.).

Volunteers are an essential part in our fight against invasive species and in our work to restore and conserve our natural areas. Your help allows the Metroparks to protect unique ecosystems that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

To register for the volunteer day, please click here: https://www.rei.com/event/volunteer-for-national-public-lands-day/milford/218551

*Volunteer opportunities without a minimum of five volunteers registered will be cancelled. Volunteer opportunities may also be cancelled for severe weather events. These weather events can include extreme heat or heavy rain. Opportunities cancelled due to weather may be rescheduled. Those registered will be notified by email at least 24 hours in advance.

A liability waiver is required; if under 18, a parent/legal guardian needs to sign as well.

Time: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
