How do you become a Metropark Police Officer?
A Metropark Police Officer is a highly trained individual who must attend a MCOLES certified police academy in the State of Michigan before being considered for employment. Please refer to the Police Department Employment section of this website for additional information.
How do I report an emergency or injury?
As with all Police Departments in the State of Michigan, the 911 emergency response system is the quickest route to emergency aid. Use of the 911 system is reserved to report a serious crime in progress or that has just occurred, or a life threatening situation such as a medical emergency, fire or car accident involving a personal injury. For all non-emergency situations contact the appropriate Park Office or facility.
How do I report information about a crime?
All crimes should be reported to the Metropark Police Department either by calling 911, contacting the appropriate Park Office or speaking directly to an officer on patrol.
How do I file a police report?
If you are in immediate danger call 911 or ask a nearby park patron or employee for help. If you are not in immediate danger but wish to report the incident, call the appropriate Park Office or come to the Park Office during their business hours. This should be done as soon as possible after the incident to preserve evidence.
How do I report trail hazards and damage?
All trail hazards can be reported to any park employee within the park or the local Park Office. Any life threatening hazard (down power line, sink hole on the trail etc.) should be reported through 911 or the appropriate Park Office.
Are fishing licenses required?
Yes, all state rules and regulations apply. Go to www.michigan.gov/dnr to view the Michigan Fishing Guide and obtain license and season information.
Is hunting allowed in the Metroparks?
Hunting and/or trapping is not permitted in any of the Metroparks.
Are snowmobiles/ORVs allowed in the Metroparks?
Snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles are prohibited in the Metroparks.
Do you have a lost and found?
Yes, we have lost and found department at the park offices. If you are seeking to register a lost item or check to see if an item has been found, contact the appropriate Park Office. If the wish to make a police report regarding a lost item; contact a police officer at the park that the item was lost at and set up a time/date to make your report. Reports are not taken over the phone.
How do I recover or claim property?
All stolen or lost property should be reported to the Metropark Police Department either at the appropriate Park Office or the nearest facility. At that time a report will be taken and if and when the property is recovered the owner will be notified. If you are seeking to pick up found or held property contact the Park Office to schedule a time to do so with the property officer. Property will only be released to the person who is named by the releasing officer. The individual must have identification at the time of release. If the person named is unavailable to pick up their property, they can name an alternate person to pick it up depending upon the circumstances.

How do I get an impounded vehicle released?
All vehicles are towed by private tow companies to be kept in locked and secured facilities. Only the Metropark Police Department can release a vehicle once that vehicle has been towed. The owner must contact the local Park Office where the vehicle was towed from to obtain the proper release forms in order to pick up the vehicle.
Where must an individual pay traffic tickets?
Tickets must be paid either in person or by mail at the designated District Court. If you need court information, such as the address or phone number, refer to the citation itself or contact the appropriate Park Office to obtain that information.
Does the police department assist with keys locked in my car?
Yes, the Police Officers will assist you with a lockout within the park. You will be asked to sign a waiver. Contact the Park Office to request assistance.
What if I have a complaint against a police officer?
Make contact with the supervisor on duty at the designated park. If the supervisor is unable to resolve the matter to your satisfaction, you may file an official written complaint. Your complaint will be investigated, and you will be notified of the results of your complaint.
