Many species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects make their homes in the diverse ecosystems throughout the Metroparks. Some of these species are very rare, and their habitats are protected and maintained in such a way as to ensure their future survival. On the other hand, some of these species are overpopulated and require management to reduce their numbers and improve the health of both their habitats and their overall population.
