Kensington Metropark

Meet farm animals and get a glimpse of rural life at Kensington Metropark Farm Center. Take in the sights, smells and sounds of life on the farm and see live farm animals like chickens, sheep, cattle and draft horses. Tour a 150-year old restored barn and poultry house, and take a short walk to the Kids’ Cottage, a one-of-a kind “green” building made from trees, rocks, soil and plants found primarily at the park.  An herb garden, field crops and old-fashioned farm equipment are also on display. Special programs are held on the animals, where some of our food comes from and other farm-related topics. Weekends in March visitors can visit the Sugar Shack and observe as maple trees are tapped and the sap is boiled to make maple syrup. Public hayrides and/or sleigh rides are available on weekends and holidays noon to 4 pm; please refer to Hayrides under Park Activities for additional information. Privately chartered hayrides or sleigh rides are also available. The Farmhouse Grille offers sandwiches, soft drinks and other snacks. To view upcoming farm programs and events, please check out the Events page of the Website.  The Farm Center is currently open 9 am to 6 pm daily.

Wolcott Mill Metropark

Meet “Mighty Mitt,” Michigan’s famous steer, and get a glimpse of rural life at Wolcott Mill Metropark Farm Center. Visit the 250-acre working farm and see live animals like dairy cows, chickens, goats, pigs, sheep, ducks, and horses. Kids delight at learning where our food comes from as they look at displays and meet the animals throughout the farm. The interpretive staff conducts programs on a wide variety of subjects such as milk, lamb and wool production, soil and water conservation, sustainable agriculture, food processing and modern farming techniques. The farm is open 9 am to 5 pm daily. The cows are milked at 10 am daily from April 1 through October 31 and from November 1 through March 31 at 4:30 pm. The farm also offers group/fieldtrip tours, Scout and 4H programs.
