Hudson Mills Metropark

Fasten your skis and enjoy a cross-country ski excursion on six miles of groomed trails at Hudson Mills Metropark. Glide past picturesque snow-glazed fields, ice-covered ponds, and beautiful deciduous forests. Take a refreshing drink from your water bottle on one of two rustic bridges overlooking the Huron River. The course has varied terrain and accommodates all skill levels. The Ski Touring /Activity Center, open weekends only, features a heated lounge, food service and public restrooms. Groups of 10 or more can make arrangements to ski during the week by calling (734) 426-8211. Dogs are NOT allowed on ski trails.

Huron Meadows Metropark

Huron Meadows Metropark is one of just a few parks in southeast Michigan that offers skate-style and classic groomed cross country ski trails.  Choose among 14.8 miles of trails groomed for tracked, classic skiing over easy to moderate terrain, or nine miles of trails groomed for skate-style skiing on moderate terrain with rolling hills. Plus, we have a 1K loop made from snow shot from our snow guns, that is open even if there isn't much snow! 

All trails are open, ski and weather conditions permitting.  

Separate trails for hikers and snowshoers help keep our ski trails in great shape for skiers only! 

This park offers spectacular scenery for your next cross-country ski excursion. Glide past snow-glazed fields, an ice-covered lake, and beautiful deciduous forests. 

The Ski Touring Center (Golf Starter Building) is open weekends for ski rentals and features a heated lounge, restrooms and snacks. Groups of 10 or more can make arrangements to rent skis during the week. Dogs are not allowed on ski trails.

Indian Springs Metropark

Celebrate a fresh snowfall by cross-country skiing at Indian Springs Metropark. Glide across nearly 12 miles of trails on varied terrain, passing through scenic wooded areas and frozen wetlands, or try the open expanses on the golf course. The trails accommodate beginner and intermediate skiers.

Kensington Metropark

Fasten your skis and glide across more than twelve miles of groomed trails at Kensington Metropark. Coast past snow-glazed fields, frozen ponds and beautiful deciduous woods. Beginner and intermediate level trails traverse the park and golf course. 

The Ski Center is located in the Golf Starter Building. Rental equipment will be available Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays from 10 am to 5:30 pm (weather and trail conditions permitting). The Ski Center has food service available when open.  Special equipment rental rates are available for organized groups on weekdays. Please schedule a minimum of one week in advance and pre-payment is required. 

Trail maps are available at the Ski Center, tollbooths or the Kensington Park Office. Skiing is prohibited in the following areas: Nature Study Area and nature trails, sledding hills and toboggan runs, snowboarding hill, and on the golf course greens. Trails are open 6 am to 10 pm and they are not lit. Please use only marked ski trails, click here  for a ski trail map.

Lake Erie Metropark

Glide across crisp snow and 4.25 miles of marked, groomed trails cross-country skiing at Lake Erie Metropark. Dense hawthorn thickets are interspersed with tranquil wetlands to form breathtaking scenery for the winter trail user. The long Canadian shoreline forms a stunning backdrop to the far eastern shore. Observe the tracks of deer, red fox, mink and muskrat if you don’t spot the animal itself. The mid-winter vista across the Detroit River Mouth will contain thousands of cooing tundra swans and flocks of waterfowl. In most years, dozens of bald eagles can be seen using the islands or roosting in shoreline trees or shelf ice of the river. The course accommodates beginner and intermediate skiers. 

Lake St. Clair Metropark

Celebrate a fresh snowfall by cross-country skiing at Lake St. Clair Metropark. Two and one-half miles of marked cross-country ski trails provide captivating vistas while you enjoy outdoor recreation and great cardiovascular exercise. The relatively flat terrain accommodates beginner and intermediate levels and is fun for all ages. 

Lower Huron Metropark

Cut your own cross-country ski trail along flat terrain at Lower Huron Metropark. Enjoy picturesque views of the Huron River and mature woodlands, with a chance to glimpse red fox or white-tailed deer.

Stony Creek Metropark

 

Escape the winter blues by walking, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing at Stony Creek Metropark. Enjoy great cardiovascular exercise as you glide across 13 miles of marked and groomed traditional cross-country ski trails, covering level to hilly terrain. Coast over snow-glazed trails on the golf course or mountain bike routes. Ski rentals are available at the golf course clubhouse weekends only.

The rental fee of $10 includes skis, boots and poles for 1/2 a day. Rental begins at 9am; last rental at 3pm with all skis returned to the building by 5pm. 


If cross country skiing is not for you why not give snowshoeing a try. The snowshoe fee is $5.00 per person. Snowshoe rentals are available only at the Nature Center M-F beginning at 1pm and weekends beginning at 10am; last rental is at 3pm. Rentals are for 3 hours with all snowshoes returned to the Nature Center by 4pm.

Willow Metropark

Ski more than six miles of marked, groomed trails past snow-glazed fields, picturesque woodlands, and the Huron River. Trails at Willow Metropark radiate from the Ski Touring Center and extend to Oakwoods and Lower Huron Metroparks. The Ski Touring Center is open weekends and holidays, snow permitting, for ski rentals featuring a heated lounge and snacks.
