Observe Belted Kingfisher, Great Blue Heron and other waterfowl as you glide past tree-lined shores. Rented canoe trips begin at Hudson Mills Metropark Park or Dexter–Huron Metroparks and finish at Delhi Metropark. A deposit is required. Rental is available Memorial Day through Labor Day, weather and river conditions permitting. We also offer weekend operation during September and October. Reservations are required. There’s a lot to take in as you explore beautiful Kent Lake and the surrounding islands and tributaries at Kensington Metropark. Paddle across Kent Lake or take a tranquil trip along the Huron River to see wildlife and waterfowl. Kayaks and canoes are rented at the Boat Rental (no overnight rentals of canoes or kayaks). Heavner’s Canoe and Kayak will bring canoes to the Metropark for group rental by calling 248-685-2379. Maps for trips along the Huron River are available at the Metropark office. Canoe into the group camp for an overnight excursion with advance reservation. Contact the Park Office at 810-227-8910 for more information.

Firewood will no longer be available at the Canoe Camp for your use. You may bring in your own firewood or purchase firewood from the Kensington Park Office, during office hours.

Explore a new route every time you canoe or kayak at Lake Erie Metropark. Paddle along coastal wetlands, river backwaters and downstream along Lake Erie. Take in the magnificence of a bald eagle flying above as you coast along the water’s surface. Rest amidst the wetlands and observe exceptional vistas of great blue herons, long-billed marsh wrens and other waterfowl wading in the water. Travel past areas not easily accessed by foot as you observe an area teeming with wildlife. The canoe and kayak launch is located near Cove Picnic Point.

Bring your own canoe or kayak to paddle along the scenic Huron River at Lower Huron Metropark. Glide past sycamore and cottonwood tree-lined shores: you might even see muskrat, turtles or ducks. Group camp is available for overnight trips with a written permit. Canoe maps are available at the park office. Canoes/kayaks are not available for rent. Ply the backwaters of the Huron River along the one-mile canoe trail, among the islands and past scenic shorelines where you might spot ducks, muskrats, swans, mink or white-tailed deer.
