Demo Days are an excellent way to confirm your decision on what kayak or SUP best suits your needs. Demos are 100% FREE and the event will be located at Maple Beach. They go on rain or  shine. Precaution is taken in the event of storms. Kids are welcome if they are accompanied by a parent.                                          Early American Skills Experience
            Now Offered at the New Kensington Living History Village

Would you like to learn past skills, such as blacksmithing, woodworking, tinsmithing, brick oven cooking, open hearth cooking, Dutch oven cooking or weaving?

Did you ever want to learn how day-to-day tasks were accomplished, such as lighting a fire with flint and steel? Would you like to learn beadwork, cordage and twining?

Then the Kensington Living History Village may just be the place for you! Classes are in-depth and taught in small groups by Living History instructors who are experienced in teaching Colonial American era skills.

Classes are offered every  3rd Saturday of the month from May until October as a 4 hour block of instruction. For more information or to register, contact the Kensington Living History Village at klhv@chiefpontiacprograms.org.

We will have 18 vendors for 18 Fridays offering locally grown produce, handmade artisanal goods, tasty food, entertainment and activities for kids and adults. Our market will be “on the farm” located at the Farm Center, inside Kensington Metropark.

Don't miss the nationally acclaimed Tips-Up for the Troops Bass Tournament. Everyone is invited to the fun and games like the Corn Hole tournament, Family Fun Walk, Classic Car Show, and the Eisenhower Center “All American BBQ.” The Bass Tournament is open only to all Veterans and Pro anglers (boaters) who are also encouraged to bring family members to enjoy the day’s festivities. Recognized by the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame, Tips-Up for Troops has hosted over 300 combat Veterans and 2,000 other guests over the years. All proceeds this year go to benefit Camp Liberty and the Michigan Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America Veteran Program. Go to www.camp-liberty.org for more information or to register.

Farm Camp offers children ages 8 to 13 years old a memorable experience and the opportunity to discover the wonders of life on the farm. Each day will offer a new adventure. This camp is very much hands-on and provides children with farm experiences that will leave a lasting impression. Campers will participate in daily farm chores as well as various organized activities. Planned activities may include:

  • Outdoor adventures like fishing, hikes (with the goats!) and scavenger hunts
  • Craft projects such as candle-dipping, pierced tin and papier mache
  • Pioneer life experiences like barn-raising, rope skills, or playing old-fashioned games
  • Milking a cow or goat
  • Helping to prepare a farm food, such as ice cream, cheese or bread
  • Watching eggs hatch and holding day-old chicks
  • Grooming and harnessing draft horses
  • Going for a horse-drawn hayride

Call the Kensington Farm Center at 248-684-8632 to register. Payment is due at time of registration. Space is limited and camp fills up fast!

Designed to be educational and fun, this program allows kids, ages 8 to 15 years old, the chance to work alongside our farmers taking care of animals. Each program includes a chance to meet all of the farm's animals. Kids will perform hands-on tasks such as feeding and watering animals, mucking stalls and hauling hay and grain sacks. They will also get a chance to make a tasty farm food product such as ice cream, bread, or cider.

A 2-mile walk from Maple Beach to Possum Hollow and returning to Maple Beach. A shorter route will also be available. Your participation will help rescue, shelter and care for animals in need, and help them find good homes. Water will be provided for people and pets along the route. Everyone is welcome to walk, with or without a pet. Pets who are friendly, vaccinated and would enjoy the event are welcome to attend on a leash or in a carrier. Please bring proof of current vaccinations and be prepared to pick up after your pets.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the event concludes at 12 p.m.
